Who We Are
The most common question we get, or that any indie band gets, is "what kind of music do you play?"
The most interesting description we've heard thus far is "prog grunge." We like to think of ourselves as a rock and roll band, first and foremost. "Rock and Roll family" is our style, as we are two father and son duos. Jesse and Johnny (Mike) met and formed their first band when Caleb was less than a year old and Keagan was still in the womb. It's in our blood. Here's a few old pics to prove it.
We are an original band.
First and foremost, we are an original rock band, who plays music that we have written. That's what we do best. We continuously release new content and will do it until we die. Here is a sample of our music.
But we're also into playing songs that we love by other bands (yes, COVERS!).
We understand that a band can't always play only original music if they want to entertain certain crowds at certain venues. So we have selected a number of songs that we love (and you probably do too) that keep the party going all night long. Our selections include songs from bands like Green Day, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, U2, and Blink-182, among many others. We might even throw in a little Lady Gaga if you're lucky. Here's a few videos of us performing such songs.
Perhaps you have heard of our NIRVANA tribute show...Pennyroyal TDD
In August 2019, we performed a tribute to Kurt Cobain to a packed house at Ransom Steele Tavern in Apalachin, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of his death. That evening we performed 26 NIRVANA songs, including the all radio hits and several deep cuts. The crowd feedback was nothing but positive, including comments like "The Tijuana Danger Dogs effectively captured the spirit of Nirvana" and "This is the first time I've seen a mosh pit here!" So we have decided to take this show on the road. Please contact us if you would like to book Pennyroyal TDD in your venue.
Here are a few clips from that performance: NIRVANA
Johnny Danger - vocals, guitar
Jesse Wheeler - guitar
Caleb Wheeler - drums
Keagan Toyryla - vocals, bass
Oh, one more thing: we have a dirty little secret to share with you.
Tijuana Danger Dogs began as an electronic project. We don't perform any of these songs at this point, but it doesn't mean we won't someday. Check out a few of our early tracks (you can even spot young Caleb and Keagan in a few of the videos).
